Thoughts on Counseling

Counseling is talking to an unbiased friend who doesn’t judge us, doesn’t make fun of us, doesn’t use the knowledge against us, doesn’t dictate our decisions to us, supports what we think is right for us, shows us different perspectives and empowers us to face our fears and concerns and work towards solving them.

Any concern that is close to my heart and why?

There was this one time my mother said to me, “if you care for me, you should understand what I like, what I dislike; what would make me happy and what would hurt me.” It stayed with me and I wanted to understand everybody- what they liked, what they disliked; what would make them happy and what would hurt them.

When I started understanding “the what”, I wanted to know “the why”- why they liked or disliked it and why something made them happy and something hurt them. I wanted to know why they behaved, thought or felt the way they did. Why I thought or felt or behaved the way I did.

When I started understanding the why, I wanted to know what I could do to help them feel better

Favorite Therapy And Why

My favorite therapy is as eclectic as my approach is- I believe the first step to solving our concerns is to have an understanding of where they stem from, the next step is to work towards a solution. And meanwhile to have faith in oneself that we have it in us to succeed in whatever we set out to do. Therefore my favourite therapy is a mixture of Psychoanalytic Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Humanistic Therapy

How I Handle Stress

I take a break, and do something that I feel passionate about- I draw, I ride my bike, meet friends or go for a drive with music on… And when I feel better I think about the situation again and find the solution I feel the need of.
